The US does not recognize the annexation of Crimea, but this issue is closed for Russia.
Such an opinion was expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump.
«President Trump’s position on Crimea is known, he adheres to it. He speaks of the illegality of accession. We have different view on it, we believe that we held a referendum in accordance with the rules and procedures of international law as the UN Charter. For us, for Russia, this issue is closed,» Putin stated responding to a question about Crimea.
On Monday, July 16, there was a meeting of both the US and Russia’s heads in Helsinki. Afterwards they held a press conference. Let’s highlight that this meeting is the first fullfledged negotiations between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
