The Russian President Vladimir Putin on a director’s request Alexander Sokurov to resolve the situation with the case of the political prisoner Ukrainian Oleg Sentsov replied that he could not act «in a Christian way» and suggested to wait for the court decision.

«We can not act in this case in a Christian way, but we should be followed with the court decision. We live in a legal state and such matters are to be solved by the judicial system», Putin said, as Interfax reported.

In addition, the Russian president called «sensitive» the case of the Ukrainian director and said that he «would keep that in mind».

«He (Sentsov – «15 minutes») is not convicted for his creativity but for being devoted himself to terrorist activities», said Putin.

Responding to Sokurov’s comment about «a simple young man» who can not understand «the intricacies and complexity of the political situation», Putin said:

«It's absolutely not about what he thinks about the events in Crimea. The matter is in his intentions and in the preparation of the illegal actions which results may affect your and our citizens».

As you know, in August 2015 the North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don (Russia) illegally sentenced Ukrainians, a filmmaker Sentsov and an activist Kolchenko, to 20 and 10 years imprisonment consequently. On June 1 the Supreme Court refused considering an appeal against the verdict of the previous court about Sentsov and Kolchenko.
