Dzhemilev: nomination for the Sakharov Prize helped telling the world about the occupation of Crimea

Ukraine Presidential Commissioner for the Crimean Tatar people, Mustafa Dzhemilev said that his nomination for the Sakharov Prize has helped to highlight the theme of the Crimean occupation in the international community.

As the press service of Dzhemilev noted, in his appeal to the European Parliament deputies Mustafa Dzhemilev stressed out the importance of this award in our imperfect world to the winners of the Sakharov Prize «for freedom of thought» Nadia Murad and Lamiya Aji Bashar and the role of such figure in the human rights activities as Andrey Sakharov.

«Although in the end I did not get the prize, but hundreds of articles in the press in different languages of the world related to this nomination made a significant contribution to the coverage into the theme of the Crimean occupation and to inform the international community about the tragic fate of the Crimean Tatar people», said Dzhemilev.

To remind some facts, Mustafa Dzhemilev entered the final list of nominees for the award of the Sakharov Prize «for freedom of thought». On December 13 the leader of the Crimean Tatars in Strasbourg personally congratulated the winners of the Sakharov Prize «for freedom of thought» and Nadia Murad, Lamiya Aji Bashar.
