The occupation authorities in Crimea do not want a well-known Moscow lawyer to represent the interests of the Crimean Tatars. The deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Ilmi Umerov stated it.

Commenting to the TV channel «112 Ukraine» on a lawyer’s detention by FSS officers in Crimea, Umerov said:

«We have suspected for a long time that it supposed to be happened. There is a criminal case against me and I have a cooperation agreement with Polozov. It means that he was supposed to represent me in court. While the investigation is not finished, it can’t be submitted to court. There were a few examinations and Polozov wasn’t yet included into a case, but apparently the FSS and the present occupying authorities in Crimea have quite the different plans. They don’t want a good and a qualified Moscow lawyer to represent the interests of the Crimean Tatars».

According to him, the upcoming situation should be a warning to other lawyers and people who support the Crimean Tatars in the Russian Federation and «not to deal with Crimea, to keep out the cases of the Crimean Tatars, and their purpose is to intimidate».

«There was a moment when I was put in a psychiatric hospital for examination. Polozov appealed to the Office of the General Procuracy of the Russian Federation where he called me the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. Actually I am. This is the third moment in this interview and they get near the Mejlis. Probably, it is necessary to recall that the Mejlis is recognized as an extremist organization by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation», Umerov added.

He also said that he has the Crimean lawyers, Emil Kurbedinov and Edem Semedlyaev.

«I consider I could join the lawsuit with them. I also have an agreement with Mark Feygin. I think this option can also be», he told.

The deputy head of the Mejlis also reminded that the investigator called and summoned him for questioning on January 27 and there would be presented «new or updated» charges.
