The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted a comprehensive decision concerning the situation in Crimea occupied by Russia in 2014 which appeals to lift a ban at the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and summons the full implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution on a peninsula.

The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pavel Klimkin wrote it on Twitter.

«The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe for the first time adopted a comprehensive decision on Crimea! It is an important practical result and the proof that Crimea is Ukraine», the Foreign Affairs Minister wrote.

Also, Klimkin added that the Committee of Ministers called to lift the ban the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the Mejlis leaders entering Crimea.

«Another leverage on the Russian Federation!» added Klimkin.

The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe offered the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights «to consider the possibility of taking measures to assess the situation with human rights in Crimea».

«The CMCE calls the full implementation of the resolution of the UN General Assembly on Crimea. The Council of Europe joins in the implementation of this resolution», Klimkin added.

The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko welcomes the adoption by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe of a comprehensive decision in connection with the situation in Crimea occupied by Russia in 2014. The president wrote about this on Twitter.

«I welcome the unique comprehensive decision of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the situation in Crimea! It is a confirmation of the inevitability of Russia's responsibility», the President wrote.

As the website «15 minutes» reported earlier, on April 19, the UN International Court of Justice issued a decision in the framework of Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia on violation by the Russian Federation the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The decision concerns urgent preventive measures toward the Russian Federation.
