The so-called Supreme Court in the occupied Crimea extended the detention term to the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, Akhtem Chiygoz, on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

Chiygoz will stay in the detention centre until October 8, 2017. His lawyer Nikolay Polozov wrote on Facebook.

The court prolonged the arrest term to a political prisoner at the state prosecution’s request in which Chiygoz was accused of a serious crime. The investigation believes that Chiygoz can escape from the court.

«Defendant Chiygoz is accused of committing a serious crime, representing an increased degree of public danger. Its sanction is considered as in the form of restraint for up to 10 years. The defendant Chiygoz is another state citizen and has the Ukrainian passport, which enables him to escape from the court»,  it is written in a petition.

To remind some facts, on June 20, Akhtem Chyigoz was taken to Bakhchisaray, where he met with his seriously ill mother Alie. The invaders allowed Chiygoz to visit his mother for only 10 minutes.
