Ukrainian Constitutional Commission’s working group will consider proposals for changing status of Crimea
The working group will start the proposals consideration on Wednesday, July 5. The website “Krym.Realia” informed about it with a reference to the MP of Ukraine, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Refat Chubarov.
“We have started working on section 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which is called “Autonomous Republic of Crimea”. This section begins with the Article 134, which states that the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is an integral part of Ukraine, and further it relies on the laws and the Constitution of Ukraine in its activities. Now several article versions have been offered and tomorrow there will be a discussion”, Chubarov said.
The Mejlis’ leaders insist on changes in the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the transformation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea into the Crimean Tatar Autonomous Republic.
The Constitutional Commission of Ukraine on May 11 decided to create a working group that will develop amendments and additions to the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The first meeting of the working group was held on May 24, 2017.
The Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko said during events on the Remembrance Day of the Victims of Crimean Tatars Genocide that the future national autonomy of the Crimean Tatars in Crimea should take into account the rights of other nationalities.
