Invaders made the Bakhchisaray Khan palace «monument of local significance»

The occupants in Crimea handed another historical and cultural monument of universal significance, the Bakhchisaray Khan Palace over the republican property.

Ownership for 32 objects from the Khan Palace real estate as the main palace, harem, stables, kitchen and suite buildings, the Falcon Tower, the Small Khan Mosque, 11 non-residential buildings, 3 storage facilities was issued by the Crimean State Registration Committee on Saturday, October 7, 2017.

As you know, even before the Crimean annexation the Khan Palace became a candidate to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

According to the website «15 minutes», activist Edem Dudakov, a former chairman of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Committee on Interethnic Relations and Deported Citizens, worked until 2014 on a peninsula to hand the monument to the Ukrainian central government ownership. It became a monument of national importance which was amongst the conditions of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After transferring the Khan's palace to the Crimean property, it became a monument of local significance.

«It took a long time once to hand the Khan palace to Kiev. And UNESCO also sought this because of their demands. They could include a monument in the World Heritage List only if it belonged to the central government, not to local authorities. For example, the Crimean authorities passed such monuments as the Livadia Palace to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Our monument (the Khan's Palace) will be of local importance. Taking into account the fact that UNESCO after the occupation has ceased any contacts on the Khan Palace, nothing good will come out then», Dudakov said.

In June 2016, the Crimean Tatar Ildar Ibragimov posted a photo of the Khan Palace. It indicated that the world's only sample of the Crimean Tatar palace architecture is in an emergency condition. Activist Edem Dudakov suggested that the transfer of the monument’s estate to the local occupation authorities’ property could negatively affect the restoration work.

«I don’t know how this will affect the restoration work. The Khan Palace extremely needs restoration work since it is in an emergency condition. I doubt that something good will come out», he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine haven’t officially reacted yet to the transfer of the Khan palace to the Crimean property. The website «15 minutes” sent the relevant information request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

As you know, in September 2017 the occupants handed to the Crimean property 60 objects of the Genoese fortress’ heritage, which has been a branch of the National Reserve «Sophia Kievskaya» since 1958.
