Vedzhie Kashka: discovering the path to homeland (VIDEO)

When detaining the Crimean Tatars by Russian security officers in Crimea, the national movement veteran Vedzhie Kashka felt bad. She was taken to the ambulance. On her way to the hospital Vedzhie Kashka died of a heart attack in an ambulance.

November 23, 2017 will be a black day for Crimean Tatar people. Today they lost a brave woman, who became a symbol of the struggle to return to Crimea. Vedzhie Kashka all her life actively advocated for the Crimean Tatars’ rights and until her last days participated in protests and rallies, supported the political prisoners’ families and visited the court hearings. She is a fearless woman and due to her people got their right to live in their homeland.

Vedzhie Kashka was born in 1934 in Uskut village nearby Kuku-maale, located in the uppermost part of the village. The Kashka family was one of the first returned to Crimea in 1969 after the deportation. Her home was a secret meeting place for Crimean Tatar activists.
