Crimean «courts» will send the Crimean residents for forced labor in Russia from next year
«Courts» in Crimea will impose a «new kind of punishment» as the forced labor since January 2017.
This is stated on the website of the Sevastopol City Court:
«Forced labor is applied as an alternative to imprisonment if the sentence does not exceed 5 years. The court may impose a forced labor for a crime of minor or medium severity or for serious crimes committed for the first time».
There are created four special centers for this purpose in Russia, as report stated. One of the closest to Crimea is situated in Stavropol region in Russia.
This is why the Crimean human rights group said about another violation of the international law by Russia:
«Moving the Crimean residents to serve their sentences in the form of forced labor beyond the peninsula borders is an outrageous violation of paragraph 1, Article 49 of the Geneva Convention, 12 August 1949 relative to the «Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War». (...) The Russian authorities have no right to move the Crimean residents against their will to the territory of Russia».
