Ukraine has submitted a draft resolution on situation with the annexed Crimea to the United Nations
At the session of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly delegates, the representative of Ukraine to the UN, Vladimir Elchenko submitted a draft resolution entitled «The human rights situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol».
«I have the honor to introduce the draft resolution entitled «The human rights situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol». The draft resolution is based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the core international human rights treaties and other relevant international conventions and declarations, » Elchenko said as the UN News Centre informs.
Elchenko has noted that 38 delegations became the cosponsors of the draft resolution.
The document considers to condemn «the measures and practices of discrimination and human rights abuses against Crimean Tatars, ethnic Ukrainians and members of other minorities in Crimea committed by the Russian Federation».
There is a request to the UN Secretary-General in a draft to find ways and means ensuring «the need for full access for HRMMU and other international human rights missions to the territory of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol to monitor the situation of human rights».
In turn, the representative of the Russian Federation Evgeniy Zagaynov said that his delegation would vote against the draft resolution which he called as unilateral.
Ukrainian delegation informed that the draft resolution would be put to a vote in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly on 15 November.
To remind some facts, it was announced on the eve of November 8 that according to the decision of the Simferopol «court» the coordinator of the organization «The Crimean Tatars Resistance Movement», Nedim Khalilov will be deported beyond the annexed Crimea. Now he is in the filtration camp where it is planned to his further deportation to Uzbekistan.
