Crimean Court sentenced Chiygoz to 8 years in prison

So-called Supreme Court of Crimea has sentenced Akhtem Chiygoz, the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, to 8 years in a general-regime colony.

As to a website «Krym.Realia», the court announced this decision on September 11, 2017.

It also made a special court ruling to Chiygoz's lawyer Alexander Lesovoy for his multiple delays.

About a hundred people came to the court to support Akhtem Chiygoz.

Akhtem Chiygoz was detained in January 2015 for participating in a rally in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine in front of the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea building on February 26, 2014. At that time they were opposed by pro-Russian activists, as well as the political party «Russkoe edinstvo» («Russian Unity»). Crimean occupation authorities accuse Chiygoz of organizing riots.

Chiygoz’s case is considered by a court within «February 26’s case»  but after the court divided this case in its closed session on July 20 into two cases. So it is Akhtem Chiygoz’s case, and there is separately concerned other process for participants ‒ Ali Asanov and Mustafa Degermendzhi.
