Poroshenko: Moscow used the worst Soviet repressive machine’s methods against Ilmi Umerov

The Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko called on partners to increase a pressure on the Russian occupation authorities in the Ukrainian Crimea.

The head of state wrote it on Facebook.

«It’s a shameful verdict against Ilmi Umerov. This is an unbending hero of his people, against whom Moscow used the worst Soviet repressive machine’s methods, from punitive psychiatry to colonies-settlements.

I call on the partners to increase the pressure on the Russian occupation authorities to stop the persecution of Ukrainian citizens in Ukrainian Crimea», Petro Poroshenko wrote.

As a website «15 minutes» previously reported, on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, the so-called Simferopol District Court announced a verdict on Ilmi Umerov’s case, the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people. It sentenced Umerov for 2 years of imprisonment in a colony-settlement with a prohibition on public activities.
