On March 26, there passed a meeting in the Kiev District Court in Simferopol on the case of the Crimean Tatar Ervin Ibragimov’s abduction 2 years ago. Lawyer Emil Kurbedinov filed a complaint against the investigator’s actions who did not respond to his requests for a long time. During the hearing, it found out that the case hadn’t been investigated since September 2017.

«I sent applications and petitions, put various questions to the investigation committee and asked for completing certain actions in the framework of this case. However, within three months I didn’t receive any single response», said lawyer Emil Kurbedinov.

He highlighted the investigator provided «answers» in a court, which were allegedly sent to the lawyer. Therefore the court did not satisfy Kurbedinov’s complaint. The lawyer plans to appeal this decision, since there is no evidence of sending answers.

«I want to say that the circumstances are exactly the same for a number of other kidnapping cases. It is very difficult to obtain any answers to the lawyer’s petitions and requests. Thus, in this vein, we will change our practice and force the investigation committee through the court to properly response both the lawyer’s applications and victim’s ones», he said.

The investigator said at the meeting that they sent to kidnapped Crimean Tatar’s father, Umer Ibragimov the order to terminate the case. In his turn, Umer Ibragimov noticed that he learned about this decision during a telephone conversation with the investigator without receiving any official documents about this decision.

«I never received any resolution. When we appealed and submitted our petitions to various instances, she (the investigator — «15 minutes») called and then told us about termination of case», said Ervin Ibragimov's father.

The lawyer added that these decisions (about the suspension of the investigation — «15 minutes») can be appealed, but the investigating committee should send the relevant documents.

According to Kurbedinov, the investigating committee’s actions are a bad practice there.

«It is an awful practice that you will see your name in the case materials, as if you have informed about something, such as about the initiation of a criminal case, about the suspension of a criminal case. However, no one knows in fact whether this resolution was sent to you or not, or it was printed and filed in the case materials», the lawyer added.

Ervin Ibragimov was kidnapped in Crimea at night on May 24, 2016. Until today, despite the available video of the abduction, documents and reports on threats and surveillance on the eve of the crime, Ibragimov's fate is unknown.

In March 2017, Umer Ibragimov at a press conference in the European Parliament presented evidence of a crime committed against his son, Ervin Ibragimov. He showed the video, which shows how Erwin is being dragged into the car by people in uniform.

In October 2017, Ervin Ibragimov’s mother, Lilya sent a letter to the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko asking for a help in the investigation of her son’s abduction.
