The vineyards areas in Crimea traditionally reached 100 thousand hectares, but today this number has decreased almost three times and is about 30 thousand hectares.

Such data was announced by the head of the so-called Agrarian, Ecological and Natural Resources Policy Committee of the Crimean parliament, Igor Budanov, within the framework of the roundtable on July 24, as the website «Krym.Reality» writes.

«To revive the industry and restore it to its former dimensions, it is necessary to solve a number of complicated issues both at the federal and regional levels. Taking into account the significance of the grape and wine industry not only for Crimea, but also for the whole Russia, it is necessary to regulate the activity of wine producers in a separate specialized law», Budanov said.

He noted about all the necessary proposals to the State Duma which were developed, «however at this stage the documents need to be discussed and commented on by the industry workers».

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia criticized the Crimean viniculture in 2016.

The «head» of Crimea, Sergey Aksenov afterward announced his intention to make Crimea «the leading Russian region which will be able to compete on a level playing field with the world leaders of quality wines and grapes production».

After the annexation of Crimea, winemakers on a peninsula faced a number of issues while switching to the Russian standardization and law requirements.
